The pads of a dog’s paws can be as thick as the skin on our feet. If it feels hot on your bare feet, it probably feels hot on your dog’s paws.
Asphalt/pavement and concrete absorb a lot of heat. The sun's energy isn't reflected back into the environment but is stored and retained, due to the density of those materials. The heat just continues to build up, causing burning temperatures for feet and paws. Asphalt temps have been measured at 40-60 degrees hotter than the air temp!! A nice 78 degrees summer day can mean walking on surfaces as hot as 125 degrees, or more.
